According to Korean news portal Naver, Samsung could release the Note 8 on August 26. While earlier, there were speculations over the handset being unveiled at the IFA 2017 in September, there seems a possibility of an earlier launch.

There could be some substance to the rumor as a Reuters report also corroborates the release date. In its report, Reuters said a person familiar with the matter informed on the release to take place in the second half of August at a special event in New York City.

Besides the release date, there is not much insight on the pricing or the specs. If you recall, last year’s Galaxy Note 7 was the biggest disappointment of the year.

Samsung issued two recalls for the Galaxy Note 7. The first one came in September and then it had to pull the plug on the second batch in early October. Flaws in batteries caused the phones to explode leading to a worldwide recall and production halt. Samsung vowed to prevent similar accidents in the future by including a new 8-point battery testing procedure.

The stakes will be high as the launch of the Note 8 draws near. Rumors state the flagship will launch with the Snapdragon 836 processor, which is slated to release next month. It could also feature the same Infinity Display that was seen on the Galaxy S8. The screen is pegged to be 6.3-inch, and the device will include a dual-rear camera setup.
