Report: Apple’s music streaming service to see a price drop

Apple’s music streaming service could see a price cut next month. You can expect a drop of 20 percent from the current subscription pricing.

Digital Music News reported of sources who have “worked closely” with Apple Music revealing the information. The Apple Music plans which start at $9.99 will be discounted to $7.99 per month.

While that is for individual plans, the family plans could drop from $14.99 to $12.99. We are not sure when Apple will make the rates official. But going by the report, it should be announced in December as part of a holiday promotion.

Apple Music now has over 17 million subscribers and trails market leaders Spotify and Pandora. The new prices would heat up the competition considering that Amazon’s new Music Unlimited service is $7.99 per month for Prime subscribers.

Amazon also offers a $4 per month plan for customers with an Amazon Echo device. The service, called Amazon Music Unlimited, offers listeners on-demand access to tens of millions of songs and curated playlists.

Other players such as Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer, Tidal and Google Play offer music subscriptions for $9.99 a month.
