Imagine a smart speaker with a touchscreen that works just like a tablet. That is Amazon’s next speaker that will be part of the Echo family.
A Bloomberg report today suggests that the Seattle-based company is working on a speaker with a seven-inch touchscreen. Besides a display, the speaker is also unique for being able to support Alexa voice command.
The speaker would include voice-based assistant Alexa.
With the voice-based digital assistant you can easily access content such as weather forecasts, calendar appointments and news.
“The latest Amazon speaker will be larger and tilt upwards so the screen can be seen when it sits on a counter and the user is standing,” Bloomberg reported.
The new device will use an “optimized version” of Fire OS, Amazon’s operating system for tablets. It’s also expected to feature high-grade speakers.
Amazon introduced the original Echo in November 2014. It has refreshed and expanded the lineup with Tap and Dot. The Amazon Echo Dot is the cheapest and smallest of the three Echoes and retails for $50.
Clearly, the new rumored device is Amazon’s attempt to stay ahead of competition especially with Google recently releasing its own Echo competitor, the Google Home.
