Though the device is yet to be launched in China, the response it has received is overwhelming. The Mi 5S, according to GizmoChina, would sell on popular e-mall Jingdong (JD.com) from September 29.

Leaked images of the smartphone recently showed the front and back panel of the Mi 5S. It reportedly sports a new fingerprint reader technology.

The Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor technology will work through materials like glass, plastic, steel, and aluminium. It uses ultrasonic waves to recognize fingerprints and allows the sensors to be embedded under the display. Xiaomi could be the first to bring a smartphone with the technology.

The 5.15-inch display device is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 821 coupled with 6GB RAM and 256GB of flash storage. The Mi 5s is tipped to sport a 16MP rear camera and a 4MP front camera.

Rumours of a smaller 4-inch variant of the Mi 5s also emerged last week. The 5S will reportedly retail for CNY 1,999 ($299).
