This Clever Device Could Prevent Unnecessary Car Repairs

Posted By Josh Mott

(…and why every car owner should have one)

There’s nothing worse than seeing your “check engine light” come on and not having an answer as to why. If you don’t understand car language and know a trustworthy mechanic, a simple engine light could cost you thousands in unnecessary repairs.

If you’ve ever take your car in for a simple service or oil change only to be blindsided with a long list of “recommend” repairs from your mechanic, you’re not alone.

What most people don’t know is auto repair shops don’t make their money on oil changes and tire rotations. That’s why mechanics and large car dealerships have highly profitable “upsells” built into their business models, and aggressive service advisors selling services that are often unnecessary.

So, What’s the Solution?

Every so often an innovative product comes along that disrupts an entire industry, shifting the power back to the consumer. Amazon did it for online shopping, Apple did it for smartphone, and FIXD has done it for the automotive repair industry.

What Is It?

It’s called FIXD. It is the first easy-to-use, and easy-to-understand car diagnostic tool.
FIXD was invented by four students from Georgie Tech University who were tired of feeling exploited every time their cars needed repairs. They were inspired to create a simple solution every driver could use to save money and avoid being taken advantage of.

How Does It Work?

It’s simple. Every car built and sold in the US in 1996 or later has an DB (on-board diagnostics) port. This is the port mechanics use to connect their diagnostic tools to diagnose car problems. It’s easy to find and is usually located directly below your steering wheel.

All you do is plug it in, download the free FIXD app on your smartphone, and connect via Bluetooth.

After FIXD syncs with your phone it will instantly notify you when a problem is detected. FIXD will provide you an easy to understand and in-depth explanation of the problem, how severe it is, and will even provide a repair estimate.

FIXD monitors your vehicles “health” in real time so you don’t have to.

Is FIXD The Real Deal?

We decided to take FIXD to a local mechanic here in Sarasota, FL to get some real feedback from a mechanic who uses commercial grade diagnostic tools on a regular basis. What he had to say surprised us:

Here’s a quick 2 min video showing FIXD in action.

Sounds Great, But How Much Does It Cost?

With all the benefits provided by this innovative tool, you’d think it would cost a few hundred dollars. That’s what makes FIXD so incredible. The people behind FIXD wanted to make this technology as affordable as possible to the masses. You can get FIXD for about the cost of an oil change.

FIXD is available for just $59 on the company’s official website.
