Razer Phone to house SD 835, 8GB RAM and QHD Display

The hype is real. We had only recently been introduced to Razer’s possibility of developing its own smartphone and now, we have official confirmation of the what the product will actually be, thanks to a listing on GFXBench, which has all the details of the phone mentioned.

According to reports, Razer’s new smartphone will be launched on November 1, and the details in the recently discovered listing indicate that it will be a powerhouse of a smartphone. The name on the listing is called “Razer Phone”, leaving little to imagination as to who would have made the phone. Razer could have been more astute in their code naming, considering it is currently one of the most searched devices online.

Anand Tech, in its report, mentions that the phone arrives just months after the company made a filing for IPO in Hong Kong, opening its prospects to tackle different segments in the industry. The company has already made several acquisitions in the past, which include Ouya, THX, Nextbit and more. The company’s CEO and founder, Min-Liang Tan, had mentioned in an interview that his company was working on a smartphone that would be launched by the end of the year.

The company has had a successful track record in terms of launching performance laptops for gamers. However, the company has lagged behind with other obscure products such as the Razer Edge gaming tablet and the modular PC project Christine. Considering the smartphone segment has potential to turn towards the company’s gaming-centric flavour, we can expect high-end, powerful device in hour hands by the end of the year.

Now for the leaked specifications. The GFXBench listing reveals that the phone will come with Android Nougat 7.1.1, the Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.4GHz coupled with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone also boasts a 5.7-inch QHD display. With regard to optics, the phone has a rear 11MP camera with a 7MP camera mounted on the front.

On paper, the phone seems to be a performer, but whether the specifications will be enough to topple the already dominating Note 8, iPhone X, Pixel 2 and OnePlus 5 smartphones this year is yet to be seen. Razer has garnered a reputation for producing high quality products that defy that generic standards set out by its competitors. If its optimizations and software are appealing enough for the gaming audience, the company will be the first to carve a niche specifically for gamers in the smartphone segment, as it has done in the PC segment.
