Google’s latest wireless router, Google Wifi, is open for pre-order. It was first announced at the company’s October 4 event in San Francisco.
Here is how you can you can own the circular shaped, advanced router. Head on to Google Store where you can order a single unit for $129. You can order one-pack or a three-pack system. In the former, you get one single Wifi point, one power adapter and 1 6.5 ft Ethernet cable.
The three-pack retails at $299. Besides Google Store, you can also shop at B&H, Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon.
Google says its Wifi router is sleek and more faster than standard home routers. It can handle multiple devices and tasks without worry of bandwidth. The router boasts of a Network Assist technology that works to avoid WiFi congestion. It also transitions you to the closest point for the fastest signal.
There is an app as well to share your password with guests, prioritize devices on your network or pause the Internet on your kids’ devices.
One key highlight of the hardware is its ability to pair up to three units together to create a mesh network. Google explains the mesh network as a group of routers that communicate wirelessly to each other to create a single WiFi network that provides a blanket of connectivity.
You get poor signal the farther you are from a router, Google Wifi addresses the problem by allowing you to wirelessly expand your network through mesh. “Since WiFi is broadcasted from each Wifi point, Google Wifi is a connected system that provides better coverage over a wider space. The system is flexible and scalable, so if you have a larger home, connect as many points as needed to get better WiFi in every room,” the Product Manager, Sanjay Noronha, explained in a blog post.
Google Wifi ships on December 6.
