Pokemon Go was launched in July, 2016

In the last three months, the free-to-play mobile app touched $600 million earnings. Research conducted by App Annie showed the revenue from July to the end of September made it the fastest that any mobile game has ever reached.

While Pokemon Go took 90 days to reach the figure, it took popular mobile app Candy Crush Saga 200 days and Clash of Titans 500 days to meet the target.

Furthermore, Pokemon Go accounted for 45 percent of the time that players spent with Android games, compared to 55 percent for the other 19 most popular Android games.

Pokemon Go became an instant success when it was released in July, 2016. There were close to 45 million active users the same month. However, there has been a decline in downloads and engagement in recent times. In August alone, the craze fizzled out with some 15 million active players disappearing.

By mid-September, daily revenues had fallen from $16 million per day to $2 million. Causes for the decline is attributed to the lack of innovation. Not only has the makers failed to introduce new features, they also removed popular ones. One of them being the“step counter” feature that allowed to measure how far away a Pokemon was. However, that is soon to change. Niantic Labs has announced new features coming to the game, few that could retain the active users and introduce more to the game.
