Pocket-sized Helio lantern outshines every other camping lantern out there

Big things come in small sizes, according to Flextail Gear, known for developing creative outdoor gear for nature and outdoor enthusiasts. This time around, the company has developed a new way to stay alight without having to carry a bulky lantern, by creating the miniature sized Helio.

Helio is a 45-gram pocket-shaped lantern that will serve as the first of a new generation of camping lanterns. One of the biggest utilities of this lantern is that it can be charged via a power bank or standard wall-mount charger with a USB port, according to a Digital Trends report. The lantern uses high-quality, super-bright LED technology that is capable of producing about 220 lumens of light that outdoes most of the lanterns that are currently available in the market right now.

The light can travel a distance of up to an impressive 20 metres and is wide enough for a group to set up a campsite comfortably. This pocket-sized lantern will eliminate the need for headlamps and larger lanterns, while maintaining a fraction of the size. The Helio is also quite flexible, as it can be used as a keychain and also has a magnet that can make the lantern affixed on a steel or metal surface, such as a bicycle and a car. It will take only 20 minutes to be fully charged when connected to a power source and has a battery life of six hours without dimming.

The creators of the Helio claim that with a 10,000mAh power bank, the lantern will be able to run for more than 400 hours at a stretch, which makes it more efficient than the traditional camping lanterns as well. The Helio still has more up its sleeve. It is rated 4/5 on the IPX waterproofing scale, which makes it a good water-proof gadget. The company also offers various accessories for users to pair the lantern with, such as a lampshade, a bicycle attachment and a multifunction extender.

Helio was funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign and had amassed more than $58,000 in pledges alone. The way the lantern works is, there is a soft button on the side of the lantern that can be turned on and off and that’s it. The smallest camping lantern can fit inside any small space and for those who are interested in purchasing one, a $29 pledge on the Kickstarter page will enable immediate shipment of the lantern as soon as it goes into production.
