Panasonic has just announced an upgrade of quite a few of their most popular line-up of Lumix cameras – the G85, the LX10 and the FZ2500.

Each of these cameras excelled in their respective segments – a point-and-shooter, a video-oriented cam and a proper DSLR. Panasonic introduced the new models in Germany at the Photokina show in Cologne. The updates will include a deeper integration of 4K capabilities – a direction where Panasonic wants to go now, so it should be interesting to see how they spec-up their camera.
The G85 will be reminiscent of the GX85, borrowing the 16 MP sensor, which is a micro four-thread sensor. It also borrows the 5-axis image stabilization and 4K. But here’s what’s different – all that in a sturdier, more rugged body that’s splash and dust resistant. From looking like a dainty little point and shoot camera, it’s now a beefy and finest in its class tool. There’s also a 2.36-million dot OLED electric viewfinder as well as a 3-inch touchscreen LCD that can flip out to the side. Once it’s available in October, it’ll come fitted with a 12-60mm kit lens.
The second camera to get an update, the LX10 has more capable lens this time around as Panasonic, which is twice the size of what its spiritual successor, the LX7 had. The sensor is a 20MP 1-incher which was originally announced at CES. The lens ranges from 24-72 with a variable f1.4-f2.8. It can shoot 4K at 30 frames per second and 1080p at 120 fps. The LCD screen on this one is a 3-inch 1 million dot that can be twisted 180 degrees. It’ll be available this November.
The more performance oriented camera of the lot and probably the most video-focused one is the FZ2500, catering to the professional video-making crowd. This particular model offers 20x optical zoom and also comes with a 35mm equivalent range of 24-480mm and a variable aperture of f2.8-4.5. There are 16 elements in its lens so users will see almost lossless zoom quality. Its sensor offers 20 megapixels and can shoot at 4K at 30 fps, while stills can be captured at 12 fps. This model should be available in December.
