Oppo releases R11s and R11s Plus with full screen HD+ AMOLED panels and AI Beauty selfie cameras

Today, Oppo unveiled two new phones in China – the R11s and the R11s Plus, which are supposed to succeed the R11 and the R11 Plus respectively. With just a few months since its predecessors launch, the company’s decision to quickly update the line-up may seem like a hurried decision. Fortunately, Oppo have made improvements to the existing formula or the R11 series and have introduced a better screen, and better internals to boot.

The R11s has a screen to body ratio of 85.8%. The R11s Plus has a screen to body ratio of 85.95%. The new displays on the phones are near bezel-less AMOLED panels. The smaller of the two phones features a 6.01-inch screen with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels while the larger of the two siblings comes with a 6.43-inch display with the same resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, making the displays tall, but also making them usable, thanks to the edge-to-edge displays.

Both phones come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is an octa-core 2.2GHz octa-core processor with the Adreno 512 GPU. The chipset is quite capable and should be able to hold up against applications. For an update, the phones are lacking in the latest Android software, offering only Android Nougat 7.1.1 with ColorOS 3.2. The phones also share the same cameras, with a rear camera module consisting a 16MP primary lens with an aperture of f/1.7 and a secondary 20MP camera with the same aperture. On the front of both the phones will be a 20MP camera sensor, with Oppo’s specialty AI Beauty feature. The AI Beauty feature consists of over 200 facial enhancements, automatic scene detection and its own portrait mode. The fingerprint sensors on both the phones are located at the back, just below the Oppo logo.

Where the two phones differ in specifications, is their battery size. The R11s comes with a 3,205mAh battery and the larger, R11s Plus comes with a 4,000mAh battery unit. Both phones also feature the company’s proprietary VOOC fast-charging. Both phones also come with a dual-SIM hybrid setup.

We should keep an eye on the design of the R11s and the R11s Plus closely, as we could see the same chassis on the upcoming OnePlus 5T as well later this month when it releases. The Oppo R11s will will come in Black, Champagne Gold and Red colour options at a price of $454. There is a special edition Red colour variant that will retail for $484 as well. The R11s will be available starting November 10. The R11s Plus will come in Black and Champagne Gold colour variants and will go on sale starting November 24.
