The OnePlus 5 is shaping up to be quite a good release this year, with the latest rumors about its cameras promising advanced optics like we have never before seen. While it is almost confirmed that the phone will feature dual-lens cameras, it is yet to be seen what they will be comprised of. This new rumor may be able to put speculations to rest.
Reports state that the handset will be sporting a 16MP Sony IMX389 sensor – the same one used in the Oppo R9s. How this specification will fit with the dual-camera set up is yet to be seen. However, it can be assumed that OnePlus could have also gone with just a single camera sensor on the rear as opposed to two. If this rumor is to be taken seriously, then we only know of the specification of one of the camera sensors. There may also be two of those sensors on the back of the phone instead. There have also been leaked photos of the camera in action, and although it may not be real, the samples showed some decent photo quality. Earlier rumors had indicated that the rear would feature a combination of two 12MP cameras as well, so this information needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.
The Next Web received an image of the rear of the supposed OnePlus 5 which featured two rear cameras, but on a chassis that looks exactly like the OnePlus 3/3T. In fact, OnePlus released a video of celebrities who spoke of cameras and one of them, Sushant Singh Rajput, spoke of how dual lens front-facing cameras make him look good. This could be a hint as to OnePlus dabbling into the dual-selfie camera configuration. So just might end up seeing two pairs of dual-sensor cameras on the phone. The parent company of OnePlus, BBK Electronics, also owns Oppo and Vivo, who both have dual front facing cameras on some of their phones. So, it seems likely that OnePlus may also take the same route.
Apart from camera and internals, the other changes that the OnePlus 5 might see is an increase in the pricing of the device, since the OnePlus 5 is reportedly using more expensive materials than before, among which ceramic lists as one of the key components that the company may use this time around. The phone should be expected to come at a cost of no less than $650, which will surprise many fans of the company. Then again, this should also be taken with grain of salt. The price hike can be justified, considering the phone may come with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, a QHD display as well as the top of the line Snapdragon 835 processor. The phone will not be on par or cheaper with than the price of the 3T for sure, but it may well be the most powerful phone on the market when it releases.
Pricing has always been OnePlus’s most distinguishing features that has set itself apart from the competition. The company has become famous for offering quality materials and performance at the fraction of the cost of a flagship. The phone is still pending a release, for which the hype will continue. Until then, users will have to take consolation in the OnePlus 3T’s impeccable performance and price.
