OnePlus 5 could be the most powerful Android handset yet, based on leaked Geekbench scores

The OnePlus 5’s arrival this summer is one of the most anticipated phone releases yet. While there already has been a sense of confirmation surrounding the performance of the device, those speculations have further been cemented, owing to the latest Geekbench scores that have been released.

While the OnePlus 5 is touted to come with the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset, not much has been verified in terms of performance. Based on the data by Geekbench, the phone seems to have raced ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S8+ – the current champion of the popular benchmarking tool. The OnePlus 5 scored 1,963 points on the single-core test and 6,687 on the multi-core test. One the other hand, the Galaxy S8+ scored a slightly slower 1,929 on the single-core test and 6,375 on the multi-core test. While the difference is just slight, we can notice that OnePlus have pulled out all the stops in terms of performance and raw power.

The scores cited were for the OnePlus 5’s because the model number as well as the build number were mentioned in the phone details of the app. One of the arguments posed towards the edge gained by the OnePlus 5 is, asking how could it overtake the Galaxy S8+ despite having the same processor. The answer may well lie in the RAM configuration as the OnePlus 5 is rumored to pack anywhere between 6GB to 8GB of memory on board.

Trusted Reviews argues that benchmarking the phones are not truly a way of identifying the performance, but are rather a measurement of the phone’s prowess and internal performance potential. The real competition lies in real-world use of the phone. Considering that the OnePlus 5 has already outdone the Galaxy S8+ in terms of performance and specifications, we should not be surprised if the phone eventually becomes smoother than the current Android king. Even though the Samsung Galaxy S8+ offers the smoothest Android experience, it is still lagging behind the iPhone 7 Plus in comparison; something that the OnePlus 5 might also not be able to do just yet.

It is also easy to put into perspective why the OnePlus 5 is more powerful than the Galaxy S8+. This could be because of the cleaner interface that is carried on the OnePlus 5, compared to the heavily customised skin and features that are offered on the S8+. The OnePlus 5 will probably follow the same pattern as its predecessors and rely on a stock-based user experience, coupled with overwhelming RAM.
