After Google, Apple and now Huawei, it’s ZTE’s turn to announce their newest flagship smartphone. The company’s Nubia subsidiary just launched its new Z17S and Z17 miniS smartphones, which are supposed to offer better cameras, newer software and at an even better price than its predecessor.
Nubia Z17S
The Nubia Z17S is the more powerful of the two offerings from the company. It comes with a 5.73-inch FHD+ screen and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The most iconic feature that Nubia phones are known for, the prominent red home button, has been ditched and the phone now uses software keys instead.
The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It also comes in a variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It runs Android Nougat out of the box and with Nubia UI 5.1 layered on top. There are two dual-cameras on the phone – one set on the back and another set on the front. The rear setup comes with a 12MP + 23MP combination while the front facing cameras are a pair of dual 5MP sensors. Keeping the phone going through the day is a 3,100mAh battery that supports fast charging, with the company promising 50 percent in just 25 minutes of charge.
The body is made of aviation-grade aluminium alloy and maintains very slim bezels on the top and bottom of the display. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back. The phone’s pricing will range from $455 to $607, depending on the variant. It will be available for pre-order until October 19, after which the sales begin at 10 AM local time.
Nubia Z17 MiniS
Just like its bigger sibling, the MiniS comes with Android Nougat 7.1 as well with Nubia’s new user interface. The dual selfie camera is also present here, but is configured a little differently than the Z17S. it features one 16MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 with an 80-degree wide lens. The second sensor is a 5MP one with an aperture of f/2.2. on the rear is a camera combo consisting of two 13MP sensors. It comes with a smaller 5.2-inch FHD display, compared to the Z17S and features the Snapdragon 653 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The phone will also be available for pre-order until October 19 and will be available in black gold and deep blue colours for the price of $303. There is another Aegean Blue version for $318. Unlike the Z17S, the MiniShas its home button/fingerprint sensor up front underneath the display.
