Pokemon Go is official in India.

“To our Trainers in India – we appreciate your patience during the last few months while we worked on bringing Pokémon GO to your country. The Niantic team had to resolve a few administrative challenges before launching in order to ensure we could provide the best experience possible,” the company wrote in a blog post.

Pokemon GO is a popular Augmented Reality game that was launched in July and soon became a hit worldwide. It uses geo-locations to place Pokemon across landmarks and areas. Players
can find, catch and train Pokemon to raise their levels.

“It’s exciting to see Pokemon fans in India step out and explore their neighbourhoods in search of Pokemon, and Jio’s disruptive high speed 4G LTE Network will be an excellent way to experience the game,” NDTV quoted John Hanke, CEO and founder of Niantic, as saying.

Reliance Digital Stores and select partner premises across India will appear as ‘PokeStops’ or ‘Gyms’ in the game starting today. The game requires active data connection, camera and GPS to run.

Niantic has launched Pokemon Go in 90 countries. Downloaded more than 500 million times, the game also was launched for fans in Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
