There’s great news for all PlayStation addicts out there. Sony is bringing a slimmer and lighter PlayStation 4 (PS4) around mid of this month.

In an official announcement, Sony said its next-generation console will be lighter by about 30% in comparison to its previous models. The weight is reduced by 25% and 16% pitted with the first (CUH-1000 series) and current (CUH-1200 series) models.

Growing demand for energy efficient devices has also been on the priority list. The power consumption on the new PS4 system has been cut by more than 34% and 28%.

The slimmer model, with trimmed and curved corners, will also support HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging technology. HDR is a new standard for home entertainment. It displays the wider dynamic range inherent in the original capture of content.

On Wednesday, Sony also unveiled the PlayStation 4 Pro with improved image processing capability and support for 4K quality images. The high-end system supports 4K video playback to deliver 4K streaming video services such as Netflix and YouTube. The system delivers 1080p resolution for all PS4 games and higher for some supported titles.

“Today marks an exciting new milestone for PlayStation as we unveiled the high-end PS4 Pro in the midst of the console lifecycle, catering to gamers who are looking for a heightened PS4 experience,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

As for games on PS4, Sony will expand the portfolio with much anticipated titles from third-party developers and publishers. Also included will be SIE Worldwide Studios’ Final Fantasy XV, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon Zero Dawn (SIE WWS) and Persona 5.

The PlayStation 4 (CUH-2000 series) sports an improved CPU (x86-64 AMD ‘Jaguar’, 8 cores) and GPU (1.84 TFLOPS, AMD Radeon based graphics engine).

The computer entertainment system will be available for purchase from September 15. With a standard storage size of 500GB, the console comes at a price tag of $299 USD.

A whopping 5.7 million PlayStation 4 consoles were sold during the 2015 holiday season. The Japanese multinational conglomerate is hoping to continue the sales momentum with newer models to stir consumers.
