Not just iPhones, future MacBooks could also feature OLED panels

Just recently Apple debuted a new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. Now, the company is exploring OLED display panels for all the future MacBooks.

New reports speculate that Apple is putting all efforts to replace LCD screens with OLED displays. ETNews reported that Apple is already testing OLED displays for full implementation than just in the Touch Bar.

Apple’s latest MacBook Pro employs OLED panels for only Touch Bar and not entire panel. OLED panels are extremely thin, making devices sleeker. They also require no backlight and offers better response times and contrast ratios.

Another benefit with OLED is they use less power than LCD displays. The energy-efficient panels are already used by giants like Samsung, Dell and HP, who have ditched LCD screens for OLED panels in their latest releases.

Apple currently only uses OLED displays on the Apple Watch and the Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pros. The OLED Touch Bar is located on top of MacBook’s keyboard and performs a variety of functions.

Earlier, reports speculated that Apple is planning on using OLED for its iPhones starting next year. It should not then be a surprise that the tech giant is exploring OLED for all its next MacBooks too.

When to expect the next MacBook release? KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has estimated the launch to be in second half of 2017. He also noted that the new MacBook line could see a price cut and will add support for 32GB RAM.
