The new Samsung Gear S3 watch-faces: Outdoor, Travel and Sports

While most other smart-watch makers are scurrying around trying to update their latest with the Android Wear 2.0 OS, Samsung’s own Tizen-equipped Gear S3 smartwatches are enjoying their own versions of updates in the form of various optimizations and new changes. The company recently announced three new watch-faces for different uses and go by the names: Samsung Outdoor, Samsung Travel and Samsung Sport. The company has also partnered with numerous influencers and personalities in creating campaigns that promote these watches.

Samsung Outdoor

Samsung Outdoor is meant for those who are extremely travel-centric and has dedicated meters such as a barometer, altimeter, weather indication and sunrise/sunset times. There is also a dedicated night-mode included for the screen to protect the user’s eyes as well as pre-set altitude and atmospheric figures which, when exceeded, will make the screen flash red. In order to market this new watch-face, the company had partnered with the famous Bear Grylls in order to promote the watch.

Samsung Travel

This watch-face has been designed ideally for those who are business travellers and casual tourists in order to better help manage their trips. As such, there are dual-dials that help in customization that offer different time-zones for those who frequently travel in different countries at a time. It also features real-time exchange rates for those who want to be in the know and can also track the distance travelled. The watch-face can also be configured to show a map of a newly arrived-at city so that travellers don’t get lost. In the promo video for this watch-face, Samsung have roped in the famous #followmeto series photographer of Instagram, Murad Osmann and his wife Natalia.

Samsung Sports

The Sports watch-face is meant ideally for those who indulge in more active situations such as training for sports. This watch-face will put a stopwatch, a speedometer, an altimeter, a heart-rate monitor, and also provide seamless access to My Journey that gives an overview of the individual’s riding or running routes. Robbie Madison appears in the promotional material for this watch-face as he does a host of bike stunts to flaunt the features of the watch-face.

Samsung have made these watch-faces available exclusively on the Gear app store for users to download in various colour combinations. Those who already have the watch, will want to give these faces a shot, since they offer some really good features and give a really good look to the watch-face as well. Samsung have been quite innovative lately, seeming completely un-phased by the Android Wear 2.0 update. They are just fine and continuing their own thing with the Tizen OS, which is seeing the best response on smart-wear than it did on phones. Good on you, Samsung.
