There is a new Pokemon board game called Duel

Pokemon Go has quietly launched a new digital board game. The smartphone game is monikored Pokemon Duel and can be downloaded for free on iOS or Android.

Though the game has close resemblance to last year’s hit Pokemon Go, the concept is unique in this one. You don’t capture Pokemon in the real world, instead you collect figurines. Plus you don’t battle Pokemon at Gyms, you do it entirely online with other players.

The objective is to deploy your Pokemon figures on the game board and move them to the goal in your opponent’s territory. You have to reach your goal before your opponent’s to win the game. Each Pokemon figure has different strengths and a set number of steps it can take. Players can send their Pokemon along different routes or block opponent’s Pokemon from advancing.

And when you get next to one of your foe’s Pokemon along your route, you’ll need to engage in battle to advance. Battles are determined by Attacks on each Pokemon’s Data Disk.

“Pokemon Duel is a strategy board game that uses Pokemon figures. Build a deck with your favorite figures and then leap into a League Match! Compete with players from around the world for a chance to enter the top League rankings in League Matches,” the game’s intro section on Google Play store states.

Pokemon Duel is just the English version of a Japanese one that Nintendo released in 2016 tited Pokemon Comaster. Will this board game bring the same success that Pokemon Go enjoyed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
