Nvidia’s expensive Android TV device Shield will get an upgrade with a new hardware set to be unveiled at upcoming CES 2017.
The new Shield Android TV device will support 4k content and is expected to come with 802.11ac WiFi and MIMO antennas for faster home WiFi networks.
Reports also said the company is planning important changes to its Shield Controller. WiFi Direct connectivity also looks set to be replaced by Bluetooth Low Energy.
A 9to5Google report said the TV’s remote and gaming controller will have a “refined design and better battery performance when compared to the current model.”
Insider sources have further revealed that the new Shield TV will share the exact name as the outgoing unit. Nothing on the launch and pricing is available as yet.
When it was launched in March last year, the Nvidia Shield became popular as the world’s first Android TV console with 4K video support.
The sleek device, equipped with a Tegra X1 processor, sold for $199 with a controller.
