Motorola just announced their cheapest mobile phones to date – the Moto C and the C Plus respectively. And while the specifications seam meagre at best, these are value mobiles which offer the best hardware in that cost and also cover the best software at the same price-range. Knowing Motorola’s ability to provide reliable and frequent updates to their line-up we expect the C range to be a great addition to the fleet of handsets currently under the Moto banner.
The Moto C will be the younger and the cheapest of the two, falling just below the $100 mark. The phone will feature a 5MP rear snapper with a front 2MP camera along with a removable battery at 2,350mAh as well as a variety of colours such as cherry, white, gold and black. The phone will feature a 5-inch 854×480 resolution display and come in two variants – a 3G one and a 4G one, with both offering the same specifications – 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage with the difference in the processors, with the 3G variant offering a 32-bit quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processor and the 4G variant offering a 64-bit MediaTek quad-core chipset at 1.1GHz speed.
Moto C Plus will have a slight jump in specs and price, with it offering a larger, 4,000mAh battery, an 8MP camera on the rear and a larger storage capacity at 16GB coupled with 2GB of RAM and a 1GB option as well. It is rumoured that the C Plus will have a 5-inch display, with a bump in resolution at 1,280×720. It will also feature a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek processor at 1.3GHz of clock-speed. Both phones are said to run Nougat out of the box. Motorola will be releasing a 2GB variant of the C phone as well, although plans for the release of the phone have not yet been disclosed by the company.
Both phones are said to feature memory card slots and dual sim slots depending on the region and will also come with headphone jacks. The phones will see a release in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific markets during Spring. The exact cost of the Moto C will be $98 while the C Plus will sell for a price starting from $131. Motorola is offering the most basic features at the most affordable price, and it looks like the phone will be a hit in many developing countries.
The company is planning to have a long year this time around, with leaks suggesting that there are several new families of phones that the company would like to introduce to the world, with the C range being at the entry-level. We might even get to see Motorola make a tablet after a long time as well.
