Microsoft’s VR headsets will cost less than $300

During the Surface 2016 event on Wednesday, Microsoft announced it was partnering with five different brands to bring VR headsets for Windows 10.

The new VR headsets will reportedly cost $299 and will include inside-out tracking just like its rival brands Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. It’s partners in the venture consist of HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus and Acer.

The VR headsets could be available when the Creators Update will arrive next spring on all Windows 10 devices.

That is not all, Microsoft is also working on the HoloLens, an augmented reality headset that lets you view virtual 3D objects. The VR headsets will work with HoloTour, the software included with the HoloLens headset

“These headsets will be the first and only to ship with inside-out, 6-degrees of freedom sensors,” said Terry Myerson, Microsoft executive VP of Windows and Devices.

And given the price, Microsoft surely has a winner here with a VR headset that requires no complex set up or accessories. It costs less than $300 compared to those bearing a price tag of over $500.
