Microsoft plans to release Surface Pro 5 early 2017

Microsoft this year released the Surface Book laptop which brought delight to the faces of many Windows fans. We didn’t however, get to see a new Surface Pro – the tablet/laptop hybrid that we’re used to seeing. Microsoft has just confirmed that it will be launching the Surface Pro 5 in the first quarter of 2017.

According to sources from Digitimes, the 2-in-1 will come with an Ultra HD display and stylus with magnetic charging capabilities. The device is said to be manufactured by Pegatron Technology as well as another company – Quanta Computer, who might also receive a commission by Microsoft to manufacture the device.

We hope this time around, Microsoft does something different with the device, at least ergonomically. The sales figures for the Surface Pro have always been stellar and with the launch of the Surface Book this year, Microsoft has seen some solid foot-holding in the segment, cementing its place as a pretty big player, enough to take on the likes of the MacBook Pro. But with the Surface Pro 5, they’ll have to rethink their strategy a bit since the previous models weren’t always favourited by reviewers. In fact, they did have their fair share of criticism.

Microsoft does claim that it has been able to convince users to switch from Apple’s ecosystem to Microsoft’s, thanks to its marketing.
