Microsoft confirms Game Mode for Windows 10

Back in December rumors swirled over Microsoft incorporating Game Mode in Windows 10 along with the Creators Update. The Redmond-based company has confirmed the upcoming “big update” on Friday.

“Our vision is for Game Mode to optimize your Windows 10 PC for increased performance in gaming,” head of Xbox platform engineering Mike Ybarra said in a post on the Xbox Wire.

“This is a big update for Windows; we’re looking forward to Insiders getting their hands on this new feature for further testing, and we’ll have much more to share on what it is and how it works soon, so stayed tuned.”

The most significant of the new update without question is the Game Mode which will run both legacy games and modern games.

Earlier it was speculated that the update will be limited to Universal Windows Platform games on the Windows Store. But Ybarra in a Twitter post confirmed that the Game Mode will not only support Win32 but also UWP.

There is no concrete details on how Game Mode will function when introduced. But, according to Windows Central, Game Mode will begin when you launch a game, allocating CPU, GPU, and other resources to prioritize smoother gameplay.

The Creators Update is expected to come out in the spring of 2017. The update is also to bring long-awaited features for Windows users such as Paint 3D and virtual reality (VR) compatibility.

Additionally, users will be able to broadcast video games in 4K with Beam and interact with friends from the taskbar with MyPeople.

Microsoft is expected to finalize the additional features and bug fixes before the end of January, according to MSPoweruser. Windows 10 users will be able to manually download the update as soon as it goes live.
