In case you thought the Xiaomi Mi 6 was launching at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC), you might need to reconsider. Reports now claim Xiaomi will be entirely skipping the important tech expo.
A spokesperson of the company has confirmed to TechCrunch that it will be giving the MWC a miss. We know Samsung won’t be announcing a new smartphone at the MWC, now we have Xiaomi to add to the list.
The news comes just three days after Hugo Barra announced he was leaving Xiaomi as global vice president. Barra, who is credited to have led Xiaomi to be a globally recognised brand, has joined Facebook to lead its virtual reality initiatives.
With Barra’s absence, it is probable that Xiaomi would not be taking part in the Barcelona expo.
The Chinese electronics company was rumored for long to launch the Mi6 at the much-awaited event. If you recollect, Xiaomi launched the Mi 5 at MWC in 2016.
This year, however, the shortage of Snapdragon 835 chips is reportedly the reason why Xiaomi is looking to delay the launch. This is unconfirmed and is to be taken with a pinch of salt.
The Mi 6, which was spotted recently on several benchmarking sites, is expected to come in three processor variants. There will be a 2.5D curved display, a 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory.
The home button is likely to double up as a fingerprint sensor. On the camera front, the primary sensor is rumored to be of 23MP with possibility of a dual-camera set-up. The Mi 6’s delay will be a disappointment for fans who were eagerly anticipating an early launch.
