Meizu M5s launched: Here are the features, specs and price

The rumors were right, Meizu announced a new smartphone dubbed the Meizu M5s on Wednesday. The Android phone will come in two storage variants and have been reasonably priced.

A successor to the Meizu M5 that was launched in China last October, the new M5s sports an aluminium body with a 5.2-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution.

Processor, Storage & Camera 

The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6753 processor, coupled with Mali-T720 GPU and 3GB RAM. For storage, there are two options – 16GB and 32GB, both expandable via microSD cad to up to 128GB.

In terms of pictures, users have a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. For selfies, there is a 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and support for video calls.

When compared with the older Meizu M5, you have the same 5.2-inch screen size, but a MediaTek MT6750 processor and 2GB/3GB RAM options. The camera was the same 13MP rear sensor and 5MP front snapper.

Android Marshmallow OS

The new Meizu M5s will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the Flyme 6 user interface on top. The battery will be a 3,000 mAh juice pack that supports ‘High-power fast charging’ at 18w current. Meizu claims the 18w system can charge from 0 to 56% in 36 minutes.

There is a physical home button and the mTouch fingerprint scanner on front for security and payment authentication. The dual-SIM phone will support 4G, VoTE, WiFi and Bluetooth.

Base Model at $115

Though pre-orders have started, the actual sales begin on February 20. The 16GB storage variant will sell at CNY 799 ($115) and the 32GB variant will cost CNY 999 ($145). Color options include Moonlight Silver, Star Gray, Champagne Gold and Rose Gold.
