Linksys has long been known for developing some of the best routers in the world. It was the first to sell 100 million routers globally and today it has announced something quite big in the home networking solutions market – the Velop.
Velop is a complete wireless and wired solution that is simple to use and provides 100% speed to the edge of the home network. Essentially, Velop is the first Tri-Band modular Wi-Fi system which can be installed on any mesh configurations to provide easy access and powerful speeds on all devices connected to the network.
Because Velop can function even on varying degrees of mesh topologies ad leverage all three radio antennas to direct its range, it’ll allow for easy network accessibility in the garage or even in the attic. There are zero dead spots this way. This union of mesh configurations and tri-band tech, allows for true, modular home Wi-Fi at 100 percent of the speeds, according to a press release by the company.
Each Velop acts as its own router, range extender, access point and bridge. That’s a lot of work for a simple extender, coupled with its maximum speed capped at 2,200 Mbps. Basically, it’s like having a ton of routers at home, instead of just one. The Velops can be configured and maintained easily, thanks to some easy app installations for iPhone and Android. It also supports Amazon’s Alexa right out of the box too.
Each Velop looks like a speaker. The ports and other functional buttons are on the bottom of the device so that the profile on all sides is clean and prim. Because it’s a modular device, the company will be selling it individually for $200, as well as in packs of two and three for $350 and $500 based on a report from Engadget. It’s a bit costlier than most other solutions but offers the reliability that Linksys is known for. And that isn’t something we can all put a price on. The best part is that this is perhaps the best Wi-Fi system out there right now, and it’s currently available as of today.
