Tech enthusiasts are eagerly scouring details on LG’s next flagship, the G6. Persistent rumors have been swirling on the premium Android phone that is expected to be unveiled at next month’s Mobile World Congress.
An official teaser from LG boasting of the features coming on G6
The latest is a confirmation that G6 will be the first non-Google smartphone to feature the fairly new voice software, the Google Assistant. A CNET report on Thursday suggested that “G6 will follow in the footsteps of Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL and come with Google Assistant”.
Not just that, LG initially intended to use Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant into the G6 but “shelved the plan because it didn’t feel ready just yet.” However, chances are Alexa will be equipped later this year.
LG G6, meanwhile, will be ditching its predecessor’s modular design and will have a sealed battery to make the phone water resistant. When the G5 debuted in April last year, it allowed users to add additional capabilities to the device by swapping in new modules. The concept however failed to take off.
LG has not had a great run in terms of sales, so the G6 will be one that could restore some faith in the brand. Experts and enthusiasts are closely watching the developments surrounding the flagship.
Some key details of the device have already been revealed ahead of its debut. Most important is the processor which is rumored to be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821. The screen has been confirmed by LG to be a 5.7-inch Quad HD+ with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The first in G-series to offer waterproof capabilities, the G6 clearly will not be using modules for the upcoming flagship. The G6 will further include a dual-camera setup as well as a round fingerprint scanner. There should also be a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom.
More on the specs, pricing and availability will be announced during the pre-MWC press event on February 26.
