One of the benefits of owning a gaming laptop is the badge that comes with it and the custom design features that come along with the badge. This time around, Lenovo joins the club of offering gaming exclusive laptops under the name Legion, with its first two offerings – the Y520 and the Y720.
Lenovo Legion Y520
At the entry level of the Legion brand name, is the Y520, which offers modest gamer specs that probably allow for not needing to break the bank while offering decent FHD gaming performance. The highest variant of the Y520 will feature the i7 Kaby Lake processor, Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB of DDR4 memory with slots for more expansion, SSD storage up to 512GB and SATA HDD up to 2TB.
It’ll feature a 15.6-inch FHD screen with Harman certified speakers as well as Dolby Audio Premium sound. Gaming sans headphones would be a great experience, unlike a lot of laptops which come within this price range. The Legion range of laptops also offers better keyboards to withstand some punishment and a comfy travel range up to 1.7mm.
This variant will come in at $900 and will be available from the month of February, according to a report by Digital Trends.
Lenovo Legion Y720
As its name mentions, the Y720 is going to be placed just above the Y520, based on the specs. It’ll come with either the latest Core i5 or Core i7 Kaby Lake processors with up to 16GB of memory with memory and storage options much like the Y520. This particular model is certified to run Virtual Reality applications, so Oculus Rift shouldn’t be a problem on this.
Even so, the display itself is quite appealing. Lenovo offers two resolutions of the display – a 1080×1920 display and a 3840×2160 display with anti-glare. It’s also being dubbed the world’s first Dolby Atmos PC, making it seem clear that whoever uses this system will get the world’s best quality sound and video.
These systems will also feature a built-in receiver for Xbox One controllers, so four players can easily connect to the PC for multiplayer sessions.
The higher end version of the Legion line-up, the Y720, will be available from April onwards and will be priced at $1400.
Although each of these models features some great hardware on the inside, they’re still not at break-neck hardware spec. There’s no GTX 1070 or 1080 variants out yet, so being on the edge of Nirvana while gaming with these beasts will probably happen a little later.
