This LED bulb can also charge your phone

A company with an oxymoron of a name has come up with the most enlightening tech we’ve come across this week: A Mega Tiny Corp’s PowerBulb.

Specifications

powerbulb-pic3The PowerBulb will feature a USB charging port for people to connect their devices so that there’s enough juice in case that next Instagram update happens to come around the corner. It’s a more accessible way of charging a phone, of course. And it eliminates the need of having users to go back and forth, trying to find a power outlet.

The bulb comes with 50,000 hours of LED life – which is five years of non-stop usage according to the company. It will work with E26 and E27 sockets. The USB ports are smart-charging 21W and 2.4a each. It also has a 2700k warm light for moderate warm temperatures at 608 lumens.

The best part is that, it doesn’t necessarily have to be turned on to charge the device. With a USB wire connecting the light bulb, it can still charge the device, even if the toggle switch on the bulb is set to off. But obviously, these bulbs will have to remain somewhere close to where the user will park themselves – on a desk, a bedside table and so on. So charging via the ceiling will probably be a bad idea.

Availability

Exclusively available on Kickstarter, the bulb will sell for just $29 for early birds. The delivery time is supposed to be around December, with worldwide shipping included. This isn’t the first time that the Tiny Mega Corp has received funding from Kickstarter. In fact, this is the third one of their projects that have already received funding from the platform with the first one being the Mega Tiny Anti-Gravity Case and the MegaVerse Anti-Gravity Case.

The dual USB ports turns any lamp into a charging station

For $29 it’s a little big (pun intended) of an investment to consider. But when compared to other LED bulbs at this price range, this one is a no-brainer. Who wouldn’t want to charge their phones through their desk lights, right? It’s energy efficient and energy providing. A win-win for all.

Maybe the next time, they can start making actual light-enabled furniture, like a full-fledged desk-lamp with wireless charging capabilities and multiple ports for different devices. The possibilities are quite endless.

Maybe it could be project number four in the works?
