Lava 4G Connect M1 is India’s first 4G VoLTE-enabled feature phone

Indian smartphone maker Lava has been in the headlines for its entry-level phones. Now, Lava has to its credit the accomplishment of launching the country’s first 4G VoLTE feature phone.

Lava 4G Connect M1

The Lava 4G Connect M1 is priced at Rs 3,333 ($50) and supports 2G voice calling and EDGE connectivity, besides 4G. The 2.40-inch display phone is powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad core processor along with 512MB RAM.

According to a statement released by the company, the Lava 4G Connect M1 will be pre-loaded with messaging applications. Additionally, there will be Facebook Lite through which users can connect with friends or watch videos and live streaming through high speed 4G mobile Internet.

The VoLTE enabled feature phone has a polycarbonate body that houses a 1,750 mAh battery. For more highlights, the handset will include Wireless FM, speaker and K class amplifier and a VGA camera.

Gaurav Nigam, head of product at Lava International, notes the company’s latest product will create endless possibilities for users who will “now be able to consume digital content and even do digital transactions.”

Feature phones made up 55% of the total handset shipments in India in 2016. After Reliance Jio disrupted the Indian telecom space with affordable 4G tariffs, smartphone makers are on a launch spree, bringing entry-level as well as mid-range phones that are 4G-enabled and packed with features. While there has been a number of smartphones, Lava’s latest would be one to cater to the feature phone market.
