Intel has unveiled two new Atom processors, one aimed at Internet of Things (IoT) applications and other for automotive purposes.
The Intel Atom processor E3900 series is designed for performance and scalability of IoT applications that span industrial, video, manufacturing and retail.
It is built into a compact flip chip ball grid array (FCBGA) and features 14 nanometer silicon technology. The processor comes with Intel’s ninth-generation graphics engine for incredible 3-D graphics in media-rich applications. The E3900 series also has four vector image processing units for quality video in low light, color and detail preservation.
In a press note, Intel said the E3900 series is a significant step toward building a more robust IoT ecosystem. “The series’ early access program has generated tremendous excitement among our customers and partners, putting the product on track to be one of Intel’s most successful IoT processors,” the note stated.
“With these processors, Intel continues to offer the significant advantage of economies of scale in IoT technologies across sensors, compute and storage.”
On the A3900, which will used on automotive applications, Intel said it is designed to enable a complete software defined cockpit solution that includes in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), digital instrument clusters and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The processor will be available by first quarter of 2017.
