The spec sheet shows a mid-range device, with a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen with 2.5D curved glass on top. The phone is powered by Kirin 655 SoC with an octa-core CPU and a 3,350 mAh battery.

The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and sports a dual rear camera of 12MP and 2MP. The camera on the previous versions were an impressive 20MP and 12MP. Huawei indeed went ‘lite’ on this one. The cameras do not have the Leica branding too.

Sporting a full-metal body, Mate 9 Lite has two storage variants, one 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, the other having 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The device can be purchased in three colors – gold, gray and silver. Huawei is yet to announce the price and availability.

The release has come just a week after Huawei launched the Mate 9 Pro in China. The device had a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a QHD resolution, Kirin 960 chipset, and 4/6GB RAM and 64/128GB storage. The camera was dual 20+12MP Leica optics, along with an 8MP front camera. The primary camera has geo-tagging and face detection features.

Earlier in the month Huawei launched its Mate 9 flagship smartphone along with Mate 9 Porsche Design. The Mate 9 had a 5.5-inch AMOLED QHD display. It uses company’s own Kirin 960, Octa-core CPU and also has an i6 co-processor. It comes with 4GB RAM along with 64GB storage (expandable to 256GB). The 4G-enabled smartphone packs a 4,000 mAh battery.
