Huawei had launched three new flagship phones recently, which include the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and the Porsche Design Mate 10. But the company has yesterday released a new phone quietly, that falls in the Mate 10 line, but is more affordable – the Mate 10 Lite.
The Mate 10 Lite was already rumoured to be coming soon from the company, along with a pair of dual cameras on the front and back. Both those rumours have been proven to be true. It was first available in China, but has now become globally available across Europe. The $400 mid-range phone comes with a 5.9-inch screen and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a resolution of 1080×2160 with minimal bezels.
While the phone is meant to be a smaller-spec’d device compared to its bigger siblings, it features flagship-grade looks and features the company’s next-best processor made by the company after the Kirin 970, which is the Kirin 659. It loses the 970’s custom AI chip but it is still an octa-core chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage on-board.
The phone is essentially a rebranded Huawei 9i and its biggest feature is the presence of two dual cameras, one on the front and one on the back. On the front is a 13MP primary sensor assisted by a 2MP secondary one. On the rear, is a 16MP and 2MP combination, allowing for depth of field effects and bokeh. With two on each side of the phone, users will be able to take portrait effects on both the back and front sides. Apart from two sets of dual cameras, the phone also comes with a hybrid SIM card slot. The battery capacity is topped at 3,340mAh that should last for two days, based on the company’s claims.
According to Gadgets Now, the phone features Android Nougat 7.1 instead of going along with its siblings’ Android Oreo 8.0, unfortunately. It will likely take a few months before the Mate 10 Lite catches up. In Europe, the phone will be available for 400 Euros and available in gold, graphite black and aurora blue starting November. There have not been any plans announced for the phone to be made available anywhere else.
Users will still get the whole Huawei experience with the Emotion UI and while not nearly as feature-rich as the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, it is still a good alternative for those who are not interested in the added functionality of AI.
