The Huawei Mate 10 could come with new 10nm Kirin 970 chipset

Huawei is currently working on the successor to last year’s Mate 9, and as is always the case with the company, their flagship phone will come with their latest home-grown processor chip – the Kirin. This time around, the company will supposedly be using the new Kirin 970 chip – a direct successor to the 960.

The new chip will be based on a 10nm process, much like the latest Snapdragon chips. The Kirin 970 will feature eight cores, the high-performance cores possibility based on the ARM Cortex A-75 or Cortex-A73 architecture, while the power efficient cores will most probably be based on the ARM Cortex-A53 architecture. Owing to the 10nm construction process, the new Kirin 970 will be more efficient than its predecessor and power-efficient as well. Since the new chip is also being developed after the release of the Snapdragon 835 and Samsung’s Exynos 9 8890 chips, the new Kirin has the advantage of performing better in the overall benchmarks compared to its competitors.

If sources are to be believed, the new Kirin 970 will make its debut on the Mate 10 smartphone which will hit the markets either in October or November. Rumors claim that the new flagship will feature a bezel-less design as well as with dual cameras on the back and 6GB of RAM for multi-tasking. The new Mate 10 is also said to sport a 6-inch display with a higher screen-to-body ratio of 83.6%. The phone is said to also receive dual cameras on the front of the device as well. While details such as screen resolution, camera specifications and pricing have not been speculated upon just yet, the new Mate 10 is shaping up to be a fitting successor to the Mate 9.

As far as detailed specifications for the chip goes, there are no numbers in terms of clock-speed that the GPU or CPU will offer. All that is confirmed for now, is that the chip will be very battery-friendly and will outdo the last generation Kirin chipset, which was a performer by itself.

Maybe this year, Huawei’s Mate series will be taken more seriously among its competitors, matching price for performance. The Chinese manufacturer has its work cut out for itself on the international front, but regionally, the company can be expected to do well in the Chinese market as it is more predominant in its home country.
