The Huawei Honor 8 Lite has been the subject of quite bit of buzz lately, since the Honor 8 first went official. The company has now made it official to the world, listing it on a Finnish website with a price of EUR 269. With the leak, we can confirm that it is the spitting image of the Huawei P8 Lite that was just recently launched. What do we get for that price bracket? And how well does it compare to the Xiaomi Mi 5s, which is more than capable of being flagship material. Here is the comparison.
Display
The Honor 8 Lite will feature a 5.2-inch FHD display with a curvature of 2.5D glass. This will make the phone look a lot more premium than it really is, but is still quite decent. The display technology should probably be that of an IPS LCD – the same found on the P8 Lite.
The Mi 5s has a slightly smaller screen at 5.15 inches and is also a Full HD IPS LCD display. Display wise, both of these phones will be good enough to view the usual images and YouTube videos. While both have similar sized screens, the 8 Lite has about 69.5 percent screen to body ratio while the Mi 5s has a body ratio of about 71 percent. It is a small difference, but it won’t go unnoticed, considering the bezels are quite prominent on the Honor 8 Lite.
Camera
Both feature modest optics at the rear – 12MP with an aperture of f/20 but the 8 Lite comes in with an aperture of f/2.2. While the Mi 5s comes with a dual tone flash, the Honor 8 Lite comes with just a single LED flash. The front facing camera of the 8 Lite comes in at 8MP while the Mi 5s only has a 4MP front snapper. Nothing much different other than that. Performance wise, we know how well the 5s performs.
Internals
The Mi 5s has impressive internals and it shows in regular usage. Snapdragon 821, 3GB/4GB of RAM depending on the storage options of 64GB/128GB. There isn’t an SD card slot though, so users will have to make the most of the internal storage capacity.
The Honor 8 Lite does come with an SD card slot, but with slightly underwhelming memory and storage options at 3GB and 16GB respectively. But its chipset is a powerhouse – the Kirin 655 is almost the same in specification as the Snapdragon 821, but performance might fall a bit short of the current flagship standard. Both do have dual SIM set ups however, but the Mi 5s will feature Quick Charge, but it seems like the 8 Lite won’t.
The Honor 8 Lite will probably feature 3000mAh battery while the Mi 5s will come with slightly larger 3200mAh battery.
Software
While the Mi 5s came with Marshmallow, it never got the Nougat treatment it deserved. Luckily, for those who are in the market for a mid-ranger budget phone with Android’s latest, they’ll be happy to know that the Honor 8 Lite will come with Nougat out of the box, bringing along with it those handy multi-tasking features that will make good use of the phone’s processing power. Both phones feature their own skins and customization options, so even if the software may be a similar platform, they will still differ in look and feel.
Conclusion
Considering both these phones fall under the same price bracket, it is easy to see that the Mi 5s has had a decent run, coming off of the success of its older sibling the Mi 5. While the Honor 8 Lite in essence will be more or less the same as Huawei’s counterpart P8 Lite, it is still a bit more costlier than the P8 Lite. The battery capacity as well as the ever-reliable hardware are features that people will enjoy with the Mi 5s.
