HTC have been recently rumoured to be outing an Android One handset sometime this year. After much speculation, there is now confirmation as to what the handset will be composed of. HTC will be naming the phone the U11 Life and will follow under the company’s flagship naming scheme.
A new leak has surfaced from Twitter user LlabTooFeR regarding the specifications of the new phone. Based on the user’s tweet, the Android One’s handset will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The phone is also rumoured to feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display, dual 16MP rear-facing cameras, or either a 16MP unit on the front and another 16MP unit on the back, and a 2,600mAh battery.
The resurgence of Android handsets puts more faith in reliable and cheaper hardware, that offers updates on par with Google’s own Pixel handsets. Xiaomi’s own Mi A1 smartphone was a popular offering this year and does not compromise on performance and also features dual cameras. With more established names like HTC joining the fray, the Android One program will have reinforced support to provide quality vanilla experience.
The phone is also said to come with IP67 certification and water resistance. The phone will also come with Android Oreo 8.0. This phone will make Android One’s third offering of the year, after the Xiaomi Mi A1 and the Moto X4. The phone will also come with HTC’s Edge Sense, that we are expecting to see on Google’s upcoming Pixel 2 smartphones and first debuted on the U11 flagship. The phones will also come bundled with the company’s signature USonic earbuds, but as of now, the possibility of them making it to the retail packaging is not yet confirmed. So far, the phone is shaping up to be quite the performance offering by HTC considering the specifications.
Slash Gear reports that while the water resistance and Android Oreo out of the box, it will also cost somewhere around the $400 mark. This could be the very first Android One handset to feature Android Oreo out of the box as the previous ones have featured Android Nougat, but have or will receive the update soon.
HTC’s offering has not been given the green light just yet, and neither is there any confirmation on the phone’s pricing or arrival. We are sure that the phone will most likely drop just before the end of the year.
