As HTC is just about starting to prepare for the launch of its flagship this year at New York, Taipei and London tomorrow, a brand-new leak of the device in all its glory has been released on YouTube today, featuring a hands-on preview of the phone and everything else that is needed to know about the phone.
The video is in Vietnamese, meaning that the people behind the leak must have been close to home. From what can be deciphered over the video, it seems that the main focus of the handset, according to various rumors from the past as well, is the new Edge Sense by HTC. This will be HTC’s new proprietary function wherein the sides of the phone are pressure sensitive and will accordingly do tasks and allow users to control certain features of the phone.
Using HTC’s Edge Sense, users will be able to click photos, and launch certain apps like Google Assistant. The Edge Sense pressure sensitivity can also be adjusted through the settings of the phone. The HTC U 11 is also said to ship with Baidu’s DuerOS AI in China since there Google does not have a prominent footing in the Chinese nation just yet.
According to reports, the leak also showed-off the phone’s exterior, revealing curved edges and rounded corners with a physical Home button in place that will also act as the fingerprint sensor. HTC is also rumored to be featuring Edge Sense-pressure sensitive-cases that users will be able to squeeze just like on their phones. On the rear is a single-lens camera with dual-LED flash. Even the colour options of the phone have been delved into, confirming that the phone will come in the colours black, white, blue, red and light purple.
Although not confirmed through the video, previous reports regarding the specifications of the phone revealed that the U 11 will come with a 5.5-inch 2K display protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The phone is also set to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM. Fans will be hoping that HTC incorporates their BoomSound technology into the speakers of the phone, while the handset will be capable of producing 3D audio recordings. Based on previous reports, the phone will also carry a 3,000mAh battery which will be compatible with Quick Charge 3.0 and will be running Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box with the company’s well-known Sense UI.
While the three-and-a-half-minute long video is now deleted, it covered most of the specs of the phone physically, at least. The internals and the camera specifications as well as the rest of the new features will be unveiled at the official announcement tomorrow in New York, London and Taipei simultaneously.
