HTC is not having a good run this year. The company’s U Ultra and U Play have not been major stand outs and don’t really look like hopefuls to be in the running for phone of the year. Even the phone that the company is currently working on, the HTC ‘Ocean’ smartphone, has been leaked online for the world to see. Poor HTC.
The leaked collateral show that the new phone will feature a Snapdragon 835 chipset and come with either 4GB or 8GB or RAM; or both, since it is also possible for the phone to come in two variants. As far as the optics are concerned, the front camera will be a 16MP snapper while the rear will be a 12MP sensor that will be capable of HDR+ as well as real-time scene detection. The new phone will also be capable enough to record Hi-res audio as well as 3D Audio. Clubbed with a Smart Zoom function, it should be good enough for doing some decent video recording.
It has also been leaked that the phone will feature Sense UI, HTC’s proprietary skin atop Android Nougat 7.1. Also included in the customizations will be HTC’s Edge Sense feature as well. On the acoustics front, it seems like HTC is to bring back its BoomSound technology, providing some much-needed music quality back to the brand. There will supposedly not be a headphone jack, so users will have to find a way to connect an adapter to the USB Type-C port for their own headphones. HTC will however ship this phone with a pair of the HTC USonic earphones that are USB Type-C compatible.
Reports also suggest that the phone will come in either 64GB or 128GB storage variants. There is no word on whether there will be expandable storage included as well. The phone will feature a 5.5-inch display that will be of a WQHD resolution. It will also supposedly come with just a 3,000mAh battery unfortunately, which might not be enough to power the device for prolonged periods of time.
HTC will be betting big on its Edge sensor technology that allows the user to tightly squeeze the edges of the phone to activate certain features or trigger an action. That, as well as the snazzy new Snapdragon 835 processor in tow. But seeing as HTC’s year started off with a slump, it might take a while for it to redeem itself in the eyes of its market right now. We’ll just have to wait and see if Ocean will be able stay ahead of the competition.
