Honor has announce its new budget handset, the 7X, which looks a lot like its new flagship, the View V10, but while the similarities extend form the design to the display, the difference lies in its cheap $200 price tag, which could deceive many to believe that the phone is more premium than it looks.
The phone features the ever-popular 18:9 aspect ration screen, with not the slimmest bezels, but noticeable at best, with 82.9% screen to body ratio making it the highest in its price segment. The display itself is a 5.93-inch panel with a resolution of 1080×2060. This translates to a pixel density of 407ppi, larger and bigger than its predecessor, the Honor 6X. The fingerprint scanner of the phone lies at the back and away from the camera sensors so as to not smudge them. The flagship View V10 settles for having its fingerprint scanner on the front instead.
Under the hood, the phone features the Kirin 659 chipset which is an octa-core processor with eight Cortex A53 cores. This is coupled with 3GB of RAM with 32GB internal storage, which will be the variant that we will see in the US while the European units will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Luckily, all the variants come with expandable storage via MicroSD. Powering the handset is a 3,340mAh battery. Unlike its flagship older brother however, the phone comes with Android Nougat out of the box with EMUI 5.1. We can expect the phone to receive the Oreo update soon though.
Talking about the camera, he phone will come with a 16MP primary sensor on the back assisted with a 2MP one. On the front is an 8MP camera for selfies. Users will be able to enjoy portrait mode, albeit probably not in the same scale of quality as the iPhone or Pixel, but should be decent for the basics. Honor has improved the camera however, with 40% faster shutter speeds and better Phase Detection Auto Focus. Both front and back cameras are capable of shooting at 1080p.
In terms of pricing, the phone’s pre-orders go from December 5 to December 14. In the US, the phone will retail for $200 while in Europe, the phone will retail for 300 Euros because of the difference in RAM and storage. The US will also get the phone in Aurora Blue and Midnight Black while the European variant will get the additional Platinum Gold variant.
