Honor 6X vs Redmi Note 3: Battle of the budgets

The Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 has been basking in its success for some time now and has brought in quite a bit of positive reviews, being a budget handset. But Huawei might just steal that spot with the new Honor 6X that it launched in China recently. Here’s how the two devices fair when put against each other:

Camera

The optics on the Honor 6X has taken after the recent trend of fitting two cameras on the back of the phone. But this one seems a lot odder – it’s got a 12MP camera on the back with another 2MP camera just below it. The 12MP camera is meant to take full images, while the secondary camera is used for adding background depth. For selfies, there’s a more than capable 8MP camera up front. We’re sure the images will be clear enough for users to appreciate. But it’s in interesting set up on the back nevertheless.

Redmi’s camera has the true and tested 16MP camera at the back with the regular bells and whistles while a 5MP one sits up front. Both these phones feature good optics – not the best, but good enough for those likes on Facebook and Instagram. It should be noted that the Honor will be the cheapest phone to offer a dual-camera set up, so that should be a deal-maker.

Tech Specs

Getting down to the internal components of these phones, they are both pretty different from one another. The Redmi consists of the Snapdragon 650 hexa-core CPU at 1.8GHz, 2/3GB RAM and 16/32GB of storage. Performance on this phone is smooth, for the most part and if its sales are anything to go by, we’re pretty sure it’s because it’s a reliable performer. It’s got the regular fittings of sensors that most phones get, including an IR sensor and a hall sensor.

The Honor 6X will feature a capable home-brewed Kirin 655 Octa-core processor (4×2.1GHz + 4×1.7GHz) coupled with a Mali T830-MP2 GPU. It’s been touted for being battery efficient and high on performance by the company. It comes in 3/4GB and 32/64GB variants.

Both phones will come with a fingerprint sensor on the back and a 1080p IPS Panel on the front at 5.5 inches. They’ll also feature metal uni-bodies, that make the phones look quite similar to each other. Both phones feature quick charging technology with the Honor 6X consisting of 3340mAh battery and Redmi Note 3 featuring a beefier 4050mAh battery. Both these phones will also have their own custom manufacturer skins over their Android Marshmallow builds.

Pricing and Availability

The Honor 6X will be available for anywhere between $150 and $240 respectively based on the variants. The Redmi has been out for a while now and has experienced a drop in price too. The base variant of the Redmi Note 3 will be available for just $120. It’s quite a steal in the budget segment even today.

Both these phones aren’t that different from each other, but the better memory and the dual camera set-up will be one of the reasons why the Honor will find more favor for new buyers.
