The best Android smartphone is about to be released in a month and the benchmark in Android smartphones will be seeing a facelift this time around with a newer processor and much better operating system than last time around. Here is what the rumour mills have so far churned up regarding the Pixel’s second innings.
Specifications
One of the foremost rumours surrounding the new Pixel phones is whether they will be featuring the new Snapdragon 836 processor inside. Apparently, the most recent reports claim that there will not be a Snapdragon 836 in the works at all.
While rumours did indicate that the phone will feature new silicon, it seems that those may have been false, as the leaked benchmark scores also fall well in line with the performance of the Snapdragon 835 processor. The phone may not be as advanced as its contemporaries but it will be able to beat out the competition in terms of performance.
As far as other features go, it is likely that among the two phones being launched, the smaller one will come with a 5-inch 1080p display and the larger of the two will come with a 6-inch 1440p display as well. Stereo speakers also seem to be making a return this time around but Google might probably be ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack for the first time in history. In terms of optics, both of the variants are said to feature a single-lens, dual-flash rear camera to resist the dual-camera trend.
The phone’s most unique feature will be that it has squeezable frames that will be able to activate certain applications or perform certain functions such as taking an image or dropping down the notification bar. Unlike last year, the new phones may feature thinner bezels as seen with the LG V30 or the G6.
Release date and price
This started when Evan Blasse had tweeted that the next generation of Pixel phones will be released on October 5. This was back in August. But he had also stated that the phones would come with the Snapdragon 836 processor as well, and he was wrong about one of those features. The new Pixel will not be the same price as its predecessor unfortunately.
Some reports indicate that the new line of Pixel phones will be $50 more expensive than the first generation. While the new Pixel phones may have an increase in price, they will still be less expensive than the upcoming iPhone 8.
