Gionee M7 unveiled: 4,000mAh battery, MediaTekHelio P30 SoC on-board

Gionee has finally unwrapped its newest smartphone, Gionee M7, which will feature a display that will confuse it for an LG V30 and cameras that look like they are from the new iPhone. That is not all that the M7 comes with, and promises to be one of the company’s most feature-rich offerings till date.

The display of the phone will be a FullVision screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a large 4,000mAh battery unit. The screen is 6.01-inches in size and comes at a resolution of 2160×1080. Unlike the screens seen in the LG and Samsung flagships, the screen on the M7 does not feature the rounded edges.

It does however, take up nearly the entire front of the phone with minimal bezels on the top and the bottom. The front of the phone will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass as well, for protection and tapers towards the sides of the phone.

The phone will be running on MediaTek’s new Helio P30 chipset that is clocked at 2.3GHz. This will be the first time that the processor will be on a phone after being announced earlier this year.

The octa-core processor will be coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Users will be able to increase their storage capacity using a microSD card for expandability up to 256GB. On the software front, the phone will come with Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box with Amigo OS 5. Hopefully, the company should also update the phone to Android Oreo soon enough.

Gizbot reports that the optics of the phone will consist of a dual camera setup on the back, consisting of a 16MP primary camera and an 8MP secondary camera. For selfies, there is an 8MP camera up front. The dual camera setup should likely help in providing better depth of field for portrait mode and also offer better detail. The phone also has a rear-positioned fingerprint-sensor. The 4,000mAh and also comes with fast-charging via USB Type-C.

The phone will come in the colors Sapphire Blue, Star Blue, Maple Red, Champagne Gold and Black. It will first be available in China starting September 26 for the price of about $422. Gionee has been lacking in some stellar smartphones of late, but seeing as the M7 is the first smartphone to feature the Helio P30 chipset, the company is hopeful of a flagship-grade offering that may well compete with some of the other flagships currently available.
