General Mobile has just announced their new Android One mobile – the GM 6. The Turkish manufacturer aims to bring affordable Google-supported devices to the masses and the GM 6 will hopefully lead the trend.

The concept of the Android One phone was quite ambitious – to provide the pure Google experience to those who cannot afford a proper Android phone. Users will get the latest updates first on their Android One devices such as Android Nougat, with modest specifications. The company is currently available in 20 markets in the world and with the launch of the GM 6 at the MWC on Tuesday, the company is expected to create at least a few waves in the budget segment.
The main specs include Android 7.0 Nougat straight at launch, without any UI overlay or customizations done to the software. The company will also feature a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280×720. It will be an IPS display with a pixel density of 294ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Powering the device is the modest MediaTek 1.5GHz quad-core processor – the MT6737T SoC. The phone also comes with 3GB of RAM, making the phone good at multi-tasking at the expected budget that we are hoping the company will release it in.
On the optics side, the rear camera features a 13MP sensor with dual-LED flash, along with a front-facing 8MP camera also clubbed with a selfie flash. The phone has decent storage options with 32GB of in-built storage and is expandable up to 128GB through an external microSD Card. The connectivity also comes packing on the device, easily being able to deliver 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS and a micro-USB port.
Making the phone useful for certain applications and games, it comes with an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a gyroscope, a magnetometer and a proximity sensor. The home button on the front also features its own fingerprint sensor as well, for users to protect their phone from any snooping colleagues or friends around. The company boasts that the fingerprint sensor can in fact, detect the fingerprint in less than 0.2 seconds.
The phone will come with a few colour options as well, mainly Gold, Rose Gold and Space Grey. The countries which will most likely be seeing this phone will be Azerbaijan, Albania, Afghanistan, Belgium, Bosnia, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Iraq, Kenya, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, Pakistan, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
This sudden launch indicates how the Android One project is still going on in full swing. The offering by General Mobile seems to be a great consideration for those looking to buy a phone on the cheap. If priced correctly, this could be the best budget phone there could have ever been. The handset also seems to be a lot more reliable this time around, offering a well-rounded package without skimping on features in order to provide the most bang for buck to users. Digital Trends expects the price to go not lower than $250.
