After Fitbit announced its new Heart Rate tracking fitness bands, Garmin Vivo have stepped up to introduce a rival to Fitbit’s most popular line-up, in the form of the Vivosmart 3.
This news comes about thanks to a reported leak that speculate that Garmin could be trying a rebrand at the name of the line-up. Look-wise, the strap to the fitness band is more textured now and bears resemblance to the Vivofit 3. It also has certain design nods to the Vivosmart HR+ with the inclusion of the watch-style clasp.
The screen seems to be fairly normal for a fitness band, but we are expecting it be a little longer, being extended along the strap further. Since the leaks acquired by Wareable are just renders, they are still subject to change in the final output of the product itself. The Vivosmart 3 is shown to have a heart-rate sensor and can also track the user’s sleep. It will also provide users with step goals based on the user’s activity throughout the day. It can also keep a tab on the resting heart-rate of a user over the course of seven days.
It is hoped that this fitness tracker will come with GPS, and might be priced at somewhere below $200, according to a report by Pocket-Lint. There is nothing else which can be speculated upon, by the leaked renders of the device. It does seem like Garmin wants to make a successor to the Vivosmart HR+, and by the looks of the supposedly new device, this might just be it. We are worried by the way the display is shown in the renders, but we are hoping for a longer display size that can provide much more information on the wrist.
The smart-bands are an innovation that are right now reaching their peak. There isn’t much else to fit inside these fitness trackers that users can make use of anymore. While many producers and manufacturers out there make the same style and interface of these smart-bands, the competition seems to be now at the same level. Garmin has always been at the forefront of that spectrum and this new prospect does not really appeal as much as its previous offerings do.
Is this all that fitness trackers can provide now? Well, we’ll just have to see once the tracker is officially out.
