We were recently hit with some images of what was allegedly the new Galaxy A5 for 2018. And while there were only speculations surrounding the device, there was no confirmation regarding what it will look like or whether it will even launch. But Samsung isn’t one to break from tradition, and as expected, the company has confirmed that there will, in fact, be a new A5 headed to us next year.
The phone will likely feature an 18.5:9 aspect ratio display – a first for a Samsung mid-range handset. Hopefully, the phone will also pack the same impeccable display technology as its older siblings. It was previously rumoured that the phone may also feature either the Exynos 7885 or the Snapdragon 660 chipset. The phone would also come with dual front-facing cameras along with a water-resistant body. Whether this information holds merit for the confirmation of the new A5, we will have to see. What buyers will not be able to escape, however, is the inevitable invasion of Bixby on their new Galaxy handsets, with the A line-up next in line to receive the virtual assistant. One major improvement that would help drive the handset would be the location of the fingerprint scanner. Samsung’s mid-range offerings are not as well-received as their flagship phones are. Hopefully, 2018 could spell a good year for the company’s quality mid-range handsets.
According to a report from Pocket Now, we could see the first mid-range Samsung handset to come with an Infinity display. As far as release dates go, a January 2018 release seems like an appropriate assumption, seeing as the A5 (2017) series was announced last January as well. The release could open up similar possibilities in hardware for the A3 an A7 models as well, but we will take the rumours with a pinch of salt for now.
