The Emoji Movie is about to come out next year and the world is at a mix of emotions about. Not many could fully fathom that folks at Hollywood would go ahead and make a movie on one of the most used tools of modern communication. Actually, the question should have been why not?
No one ever thought that the Angry Birds Movie would turn out the way it did as well, but that’s what happens when pop culture accelerates in popularity. This movie was a long time due. It’s also pretty innovative for marketers out there trying to get their apps and websites popular among the crowd. For instance, the Emoji Movie has struck multiple deals with various tech companies to feature their companies as characters in different roles throughout the movie.
Among the main tech companies that will be playing a role in the movie will be Snapchat, Crackle, Twitch, Facebook and Spotify. The movie does have an interesting plot to it. It revolves around the story of an emoji that is born with the ability to make multiple emotions and not just one, like the ‘Meh’ emoji in the trailer. It then follows the journey of this young emoji towards being normal like everyone else. Guess everyone knows how that’s going to end. (wink wink)
It’ll be played by T.J. Miller, who starred in Silicon Valley and Deadpool. It’ll also involve comedian Steven Wright who plays Meh, Rob Riggle as the ice cream emoji and Tom Kane who appeared as the Poop Daddy in the trailer. The teaser released as a vertical video this time around, to convey that it’s meant for the smartphone generation.
Like all animated movies that have brought characters to life, The Emoji Movie will also feature Textropolis, where all apps and emojis dwell. Angry Birds had their little island, The Lego Movie had its own city of Lego characters and so on. That’s probably the trend nowadays. Hollywood can make a movie on anything these days. Let’s hope they decide to make one on ‘The Life of Memes’.
