The brand that once became synonymous with the word photography has now invaded the digital tablet market. Kodak has released two tablets – a 7-inch and 10-inch model – in the market with the hopes to win back their losing customer base. Priced at $89 and $113 respectively these tablets are modest and function reasonably well.
The tablets run on Android Nougat 7.0. The chipset fuelling the tablets are a quad-core Mediatek processor with 1 GB of RAM. The internal memory for the two variants are 16GB and 32GB respectively, both expandable up to 64GB. It comes with are two cameras, the primary camera is a 8MP sensor and the front camera a meager 2MP.
Both the variants of the Kodak tablet support dual SIM cards and are 3G enabled, other functions include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The 7-inch tablet comes with a battery life of 2500mAh, while the battery life of the 10-inch tablet is estimated at 6000 mAh. It offer a restricted choice in color with just black and yellow. The tablet also comes with pre-installed Cyberlink apps created to help edit photos and videos for photography enthusiasts.
These new tablets are manufactured, distributed and sold by Archos. A French multinational electronics company, with a very stronghold in the European market. Kodak has licensed the French company the brand name as it seeks to infiltrate the European market extensively.
With the advent of the digital era, smartphone photography has pushed competitors like Kodak out of the market. Nonetheless, the company needs to survive and therefore is trying to make headway in the consumer technology product market. There intent to enter the digital platform was clear when they launched their second smartphone- Kodak Ektra. The smartphone did really well due to its easy photography features. These new tablets are a valiant effort to swoon the public and set a different tone for the brand Kodak in the current digital industry.
