360 videos are all the rage these days, but the equipment to make one is not that cheap. Enter Cameo360 – a camera that is the size of a GoPro, but can also take 360-degree videos in 4K, thanks to its dual wide-angle lens.
The camera was developed by Flick Labs Inc., and the project is completely being funded by Kickstarter. The camera uses two lenses and a software that can stitch the images together, all in-built. It is smaller than GoPro’s current flagship – the Hero5. What sets this camera apart from other alternatives also, is that this camera is completely weather-proof by itself. Hence, no casing is needed for waterproofing the device, being capable of going nearly 30 feet deep without a problem.
This camera features Bluetooth connectivity, live-streaming as well as image stabilization for any and all kinds of videos. The camera itself can be used as a still-image capturing device and can take 24MP digital shots. When the video is exported, it will be viewable through a web browser, VR goggles as well as social media. The videos taken from this device will stream at 24 fps and for long recording sessions, also comes with an expandable battery input. There is also a time lapse video on the camera for capturing long hours of videos.
The device comes with its own app called Flicksee that is available on Android and iOS. The app also has some useful features such as dual-chats functionality, personalized GIFs, a SynCam video calling function, editing tools, as well as access to the Cameo360 community for sharing videos and photos along with a form of monetization/transaction method.
The company has a goal of $30,000 and is currently over the $20,000 mark at the time of writing this article. Once backers have funded the product, they will get to purchase it at a price of $185 by August. When the camera does make it to retail and goes into full production, it will be available for $269.
The camera’s intentions are in the right place and we are looking forward to seeing what it can actually do when it does officially come out. Content creators worldwide could definitely take advantage of the camera and create some great moving images, all at much lower cost than what someone like GoPro is currently offering.
