Build whatever you want with this self-assembling furniture

We’ve all seen those concept modular furniture pieces before – like the sofa that can be turned into a simple chair just be dragging the ends of it. This seems to be the future of furniture, most likely. Spyntex is one such product that has been launched through Kickstarter and allows for complete building of custom furniture with unique connecting modules.

It’s a versatile furniture assembly kit which consists of interlocking bars that can be pieced together as per the user’s preferences. They can be either furniture or even giant toys should they want it. It offers complete design freedom for the user and can be transformed into a number of shapes. The material that the blocks are made of are water-resistant, durable material and come in nine different colours.

The Spyntex was designed with both adults and kids in mind and comes with a kid’s set as well as an adult’s set. For making it easier to visualise what the finished design of the furniture will look like, there is an accompanying app as well. Users will be able to make their own desired shape and test how the design will look and whether it’ll be able to sustain the weight of a crash test dummy. The app also showcases the community designs that are ranked based on how many time the designs are used.

An armchair, a chair lounge, a partition, a stool, perhaps some form of sports bar, or even a kids’ slide, there’s no end to the imagination that can be brought about with the Spyntex. It’s also good for outdoor use, so unhinging all the blocks and storing it in the car and assembling it at the destination will save a lot of space and makes it pretty convenient to carry. It’s sort of like a LEGO for furniture. And at a time like this where space is now a valuable commodity, certain regions will appreciate the convenience that a product like this gives. As of now, it is only available on Kickstarter, with the kid’s set starting at $105 and the adult;s set starting at $242. For those can’t wait to get their hands on one, they’ll probably have to keep waiting, because shipping only starts in November next year.

Your move, Ikea.
